Recently, I had a new 2008 Honda Accord CPE to test-drive. It was sleek, sophisticated, and fuel-efficient.
The 2008 model Honda Accord is not a complete makeover from the previous models, but continues the great value while adding more room, more features, and more in the way of high-tech and functionality. The size of the engine and the amount of content determine the model designator. The new Accord CPE comes with a four cylinder or V6 engine, matched with either a 5-speed manual or an automatic transmission.

My test model was the automatic transmission. Trim levels offered are designated LX, which is the least costly, or the EX, which adds a few more premium touches, such as alloy wheels, a chrome exhaust tip, blue ambient interior lighting, heated mirrors, a moonroof, and a security system. The EX-L models offer leather seating, dual zone AC and heater controls, and a few other luxury features.
The 2008 Accord is slightly larger overall, added about three inches to the length and about an inch and a half to the width. That wider length makes for more room in the interior, especially allowing the front seats to be set slightly apart and a center console that is a little more useful.
The Accord CPE is powered by a 2.4 liter four cylinder engine that has about 180 horsepower. Actually, the horsepower will depend on the exact model of the vehicle you are driving. The higher end V6 is a 3.5 liter that jumps it up to 268 horsepower. This new V6 engine features the variable cylinder management, similar to other manufacturers, that actually shuts down two or three cylinders when the car is cruising along without being accelerated. This is a major feature of the fuel efficiency aspect, but it only comes in the V6 engine and not the 4 cylinder.
During my test drive, I enjoyed the driving. The Accord allowed all the power needed for acceleration or for cruising at a level speed. It was a smooth and quiet ride, even along rough surface roads.
The exterior is attractive and includes body colored rocker panels, body colored bumpers, and chrome window trim to give it bit more upscale look. Inside, I found an array of items that were expected, but not always found on more economy-oriented vehicles. These included, the remote entry system, a rear window defroster, illuminated audio controls on the steering wheel, and a telescoping steering wheel.
The base MSRP for the 2008 Honda Accord CPE begins at just $21,860, but that is for the LX, low-end model. The price accelerates rapidly as you add trim levels and more features. It posts mileage figures of 22 in the city and 31 on the highway, which makes this vehicle especially attractive in times of high fuel costs.
The fuel efficiency, great value, comfortable ride, and nicely appointed interior have always been representative of the Honda Accord. I enjoyed my test drive week with the new Accord CPE. Check it out yourself at a Honda dealership. |
