Pontiac G6-GT Convertible – Living a Double Life

The Pontiac G6 leads a double life, like many superheroes we know and love.  By day, it is calm, serene and subdued sedan, but its alter ego is a powerful, fun, convertible sports car.
Driving the G6 for a week was adventurous and exciting.  Like a superhero, let’s explore the daily life and alter ego of this vehicle.

Day:  During the day, the G6 convertible provides comfort and style beginning with the heated leather seats. I really liked the two tone leather that spoke of luxury and design.  The driver is pampered with a 6-way adjustable seat, adjustable pedals and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel with radio controls.  The driver information system is readily accessible to provide tire pressure, oil temp and other critical information on the operation and diagnostics of the engine and vehicle.  Many other amenities are included with this car such as cruise control, power windows, keyless entry and stereo with CD player and auxiliary jack.

The second row seats are buckets and give a feeling of being enveloped in the car.  My daughter and her friend especially liked these seats for their individuality. I felt they offered extra protection and safety, and help everyone keep their hands to themselves.
The handling on the G6 was great.  The stabilitrak system gave me comfort and security in the traction and control of this car.  Even when the G6 transforms into an exciting and electrifying car, it will be steady and secure.
Alter ego:   Underneath the calm and serene exterior of a sedan pulses the heart of a sports car. The 3.9L V6 engine supplies the power behind this personality and the convertible top generates the change.  This engine produces 222 horsepower and 238 lb.-ft of torque, pair that with the electronically controlled overdrive in the transmission and this car will “fly”.  Ok, not literally, but put that convertible top down, and with the wind blowing through your hair, it will give the feeling.
The most intriguing thing about the convertible top is the fact that a standard observer would not be aware that this car is a convertible: just like our superheros.  In fact, when I met a friend for lunch I drove up with the top down, but she was unable to locate the G6 after lunch with the top was up.  It just does not look like a convertible.  The hard top is easily lowered with the touch of a button. My husband, forever the engineer, was impressed with the trunk lid.  It is designed to open like a standard trunk for storage, but when the top is being lowered, it opens in the opposite direction to accept the hard top.  This convertible top went through extensive testing to ensure that it was dry and quiet.  I think it passed.
Some additional items that keep the G6 trendy and current are the remote start, 8-speaker Monsoon sound system, and 18” chrome tech wheels.
So, we have explored the quiet and daring side of the Pontiac G6 – GT convertible. Any standard observer might think that this thrill comes at a hefty cost, but the base price is $29,910.  Adding the Premium Package, Chrome Package and Sport Package bring the price to $33,875.
