It was called the world debut. It happened at the the 2008 North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit. It was the all-new Borrego, set to go on sale this summer as a 2009 model. |
The Borrego is a midsize SUV that boasts Kia's first V8 engine. Obviously, the KIA folks are excited about having the most powerful Kia vehicle they have ever had on the market. In a nutshell, the Borrego is stylish, but it conveys a functional look. It is designed to be a quality vehicle at an affordable price that meets the needs of today's families.
The Borrego sits on a fully independent front and rear suspension system. The upright grille and chiseled appearance of the hood make it look slightly aggressive. The wheelbase is 114 inches and the overall length is 192.1 inches. Width of this new SUV is 75.4 inches. Because of the length and width, Borrego can offer a very roomy interior that includes three rows of seating.
Inside, the Borrego features an array of technology, including a 600 watt Infinity® audio system. Also standard is USB and iPod capability as well as SIRIUS Satellite Radio. Power-adjustable pedals, a navigation system, and a back-up warning system with rear camera display are options. The second and third row seats fold flat for cargo space convenience.
The Borrego is billed as Kia's most powerful vehicle. It comes with a standard 3.8 liter V6, but the 4.6 liter V8 will probably have more appeal. This new V8 produces more than 300 horsepower. The six speed transmission is offered in either two or four wheel drive mode, which should attract those interested in off-roading.
During the press conference at the auto show in Detroit, Kia set the atmosphere of being at an NBA ball game, complete with hot dog vendors, soda pop vendors, and soft pretzels. Kia announced their association with the NBA as the sports' vehicle sponsorship. |
